Ever wanted to experience a slice of the Rio carnival?

Imagine a thunderous swinging drumming section, sequinned and feathered dancers with their hips accentuating the drums, and you have Sydney samba band - Sambalouco .

Sambalouco plays a repertoire that is rooted in samba and its various offshoots.

Our ethos is that whether the rhythms are traditional or contemporary, they all share a sense of celebration and a need to dance.

The music Sambalouco plays uses a range of percussion instruments organized into a drum section or “bateria”.

Our drum section uses the typical instruments of the Brazilian blocos or carnival groups who parade during the Rio carnaval celebrations. As most carnival celebrations are street parties, the bateria is expected to drum, maintain the groove, dance and move in a loose, roving parade formation.
